Phill’s Story: A Fresh Start with Part Exchange

After trying to sell her bungalow for 6 months on the open market with no success, Phyllis, with the help of son Alex, came to Spring to find a solution that could get her moving into a McCarthy Stone assisted living accommodation which offered the support she needed to keep living independently in her golden years.

Phyllis (or Phill as she is known to her loved ones) has always been an active lady and loved to socialise with friends and family. With her eyesight deteriorating Phill and Alex decided it
was the right time to move into an assisted living flat to help her with her day-to-day living.

Phill owned a 2-bed detached bungalow and had tried to sell her home via a local estate agent for over 6 months. “We were disappointed in the estate agent. We felt mum’s bungalow had been poorly advertised and were growing more and more frustrated about being sat on the market” explained Alex. “Mum just wanted to get on with the move as soon as possible as she found a lovely McCarthy Stone apartment that suited her perfectly in Chorley”.

Not wanting to lose the apartment and following a great deal of research, Alex decided a Spring sale would be simplest and quickest way to get his mum’s bungalow sold and make the move she wanted to into the assisted living flat.

Spring kept me informed at every stage of mum’s sale”, said Alex. “We had 2 independent estate agents round to value Mum’s bungalow, and following us accepting Spring’s offer, I knew what was happening and when it was happening – so was ideal to help me plan Mum’s move when it suited her”.

Once the property sale had completed, as a standard feature of Spring’s partexchange service, Phill and Alex were granted a ‘license to occupy’ which gave them an additional 4 weeks post completion to access the property and move out in their own time. “Having the 28 days to access Mum’s home after the sale completed was invaluable to us. It allowed us to have a good clear out and move Mum into her new McCarthy Stone apartment in a far more relaxed way – it was a huge help. Without the license to occupy, I think the move would have
been impossible and far too stressful for her”, explained Alex.

Now happy in her new apartment, Phill is delighted that the move went so smoothly. “We couldn’t have done the move without Spring”, said Phill, “I have access to a lovely dining room, common room, gardens and there is even a hairdresser on site. I have lots of people to talk to and I’m really enjoying all the social activities on offer”.

Alex is delighted his mum has settled into her new McCarthy Stone apartment so quickly and is reassured that there is help and support on hand if she needs it. “The isolation older  people can feel when living on their own can be really difficult and I wish we had moved Mum several years ago”, commented Alex, “knowing Mum can get involved and make new friends is so lovely at this late stage in life. Most of all, it was the right decision for her as she’s so content”.
